Ducky is made by Merriment Labs, an independent app studio run by Jesse Johnston (“we”, “us”). This policy applies to the Ducky app for Android.
The short version
Ducky collects nothing. It does not request permission to use the internet, has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no crash reporting. We, the developer, receive nothing from the app.
What Ducky stores
Ducky keeps a small amount of data in its private storage on your phone:
- The state of your timer: when it ends, how long it was set for, and whether it is paused or ringing.
- Your settings: accent color and style, contrast preference, vibration, and the alarm sound you picked (stored as a reference to a sound already on your phone).
The home-screen widget reads the same data. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Permissions

Ducky does not request the internet permission, location, contacts, camera, microphone, or storage access. Android’s own scheduling library adds a permission to read the network state; Ducky never uses the network.
Android backup
If backup is turned on in your phone’s settings, Android may copy Ducky’s settings to your Google account and restore them on a new phone. This is Android’s own backup system, operated by Google under your account, and you control it in your phone’s backup settings.
How your data is protected
Ducky’s settings and timer state sit in its private app storage, which Android keeps out of reach of other apps. Ducky has no network access at all, so nothing it stores can leave the device through the app.
How long data is kept
The timer state lasts until the timer is dismissed; your settings last until you change them, clear Ducky’s storage, or uninstall it. We hold no copy of anything.
What we receive
Nothing. There is no server for Ducky to talk to, and it has no way to send us anything. If you contact us through this website, we receive only what you choose to write; see the website privacy policy.
When Ducky is available on Google Play, Google provides us with aggregate statistics about installs and app performance through the Play Console, under Google’s policies. Those statistics do not identify you.
Deleting your data
Clear Ducky’s storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app, and everything it stored is gone. Android backups can be managed in your phone’s backup settings or your Google account.
Children
Ducky is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If Ducky ever handles data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, with a new date at the top, and the change will be noted in the release notes.
