Where can I download Roastbook?
Roastbook isn’t released yet. The first release is planned for GitHub Releases as an installable APK, with the source code published under the Apache License 2.0. This page will link to it when it’s out.
Which phones does it work on?
Android 12 or newer. The on-device AI reader (Gemini Nano) is available on a growing list of recent phones. On phones without it, Roastbook still reads the text on the bag and fills in what it can; you add the rest.
Do I need an account or an API key?
No. Roastbook works with no account and no key. A Gemini API key is optional: it adds a cloud fallback for reading bags and a roaster lookup. See the privacy policy for exactly what it sends.
Why does reading a bag need the app open?
Android’s on-device AI only runs for the app on screen. Stay on the “Reading the bag” screen for a few seconds. If you leave, Roastbook picks up where it left off the next time you open it.
Some fields came out wrong or blank. What now?
Every field is editable: tap the pencil and fix it. Bags are designed to be beautiful, not machine-readable, so glossy foil, tiny print, and handwriting can trip up any reader. Adding a photo of the back or of an included card usually helps.
How do I back up my journal or move to a new phone?
In Settings, choose a backup folder. Roastbook then writes a backup file (journal plus full photos) every day, and whenever you tap “Back up now”. On the new phone, install Roastbook and use Settings, then Restore, to pick the latest file.
If Android backup is on, a new phone also gets your ratings, notes, and thumbnails back automatically. Full-size photos come back from a backup file.
How do I get a Gemini API key?
Create one in Google AI Studio, then paste it into Roastbook’s Settings. Requests are billed and governed by Google under your own account, so check Google’s pricing and terms first. You can remove the key at any time.
How do I report a bug?
Use the contact form and choose Roastbook. Include your phone model, Android version, the app version (in Settings), and what you expected to happen.
